What it is

Understanding teeth whitening.

Professional teeth whitening lightens the natural shade of your teeth using clinically approved whitening gels, supervised by a dental professional. At Vestadent this is typically provided as a custom take-home system and/or in-practice treatment, tailored to your teeth.

Because it's dentist-led, your gums and existing dental work are checked first, the strength is appropriate, and the process is monitored — which is safer and more predictable than over-the-counter or beauty-salon alternatives.

FAQ

Common questions.

Is teeth whitening safe?

When carried out or prescribed by a dental professional, whitening is a safe, regulated treatment. We check your teeth and gums first and supervise the process. By law in the UK, whitening must be done under a dentist.

Will it make my teeth sensitive?

Some people experience temporary sensitivity during whitening, which usually settles afterwards. We'll advise on how to minimise and manage it.

Will whitening work on crowns or veneers?

Whitening lightens natural teeth only — it won't change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings. We'll factor this into your plan and discuss options.

How long do results last?

Results vary and aren't permanent; they can be maintained with occasional top-ups and good habits. Avoiding staining foods, drinks and smoking helps.

Can I use shop-bought whitening kits instead?

Over-the-counter and salon kits are not dentist-supervised and may be ineffective or unsafe. Dentist-led whitening checks your suitability and uses appropriately regulated products.
